In his own words...

"...I started playing on the Hackney Marshes in 1947/48 season for my school, also on sundays for my local youth club till I was called up for National Service in august 1951 to join the rifle brigade.

On my demob in 1953 I started playing on Saturdays for Finchley All Blacks in the now defunked ne mean league winning the league in 1953.

In 1957 I started playing on the Hackney Marshes for the White Horse FC in the North London League and I played for them till 1968 winning a few trophies on the way.

In 1969 I became manager of William Hughes FC 2nd team in the North London League and I played my last game at the age of 45 years in 1978.

In 1978 William Hughes FC joined the Hackney and Leyton Sunday League with Arthur Kelly who started the club in the early 60's and with me as treasurer.

I joined the league committee of the Hackney and Leyton Sunday Football League in the season 1979/80 and in season 1983/84 I took over as tresurer and I still hold the position today. In 1984 I became chairman, a position I held till I stood down in season 2003/04.

William Huges won the 2nd division cup in 1988/89 and the 1st division league in 1989/90. They also won the Jack Morgan Cup in 1980/81 beating MG Sports who a few years later won the premier league five seasons running.

William Hughes dropped out of the league in 1989 when Arthur Kelly retired to Dorset. 1984/85 was the year I became chairman of the league and I held this post until I stood down in 2003/04. In 2008 I became Assistant Chairman again as we were short of bodies and still hold this role today..."
