All Grassroots Football Suspended due to Coronavirus
By Hackney & Leyton Sunday Football League, Mar 16 2020 09:19PM
The Hackney & Leyton Football League is currently suspended until further notice due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The following is provided by Paul Bickerton, CEO of the London FA
As I’m sure you’ll appreciate things are now moving very quickly. Following the government press briefing earlier this evening (Mon 16th March), the Football Association have now taken the following position:
Following the Government’s announcement today, for people to avoid social contact and gatherings where possible, we are now advising that all grassroots football in England is postponed for the foreseeable future.
Throughout this period, we have taken Government advice with the priority being the health and wellbeing of all. We will continue to work closely with the grassroots game during this time.
We are in regular communication with the Government and the situation within English football at all levels remains under regular review. Further updates will follow as needed.
This means that as of now grassroots football in London is postponed for the foreseeable future and we will be informing all clubs / leagues of this information. We will be placing this updated guidance on our website first thing tomorrow morning and will also circulate this information to our members directly.
In terms of plans for other areas of our business (courses and training, committee meetings, etc), tomorrow I will be meeting with the Senior Management Team and the Chairman, then I have a series of webinars scheduled with the FA to discuss this subject directly.
I will be back in touch with you all with an updated plan of action shortly
I recognise these are unsettling times but we’re well placed to manage this and the absolute priority at this stage is the health and wellbeing of all.
Many thanks again for your ongoing support and understanding.
The Hackney & Leyton Football League will be keeping all clubs updated on any latest developments.
